Ο δίγλωσσος κατάλογος της κοινής έκθεσης περιλαμβάνει όλα τα επιγραφικά τεκμήρια που εκτίθενται στο Εβραϊκό Μουσείο της Ελλάδος και στο Επιγραφικό Μουσείο, τα οποία και ταξινομούνται θεματικά, καλύπτοντας εκφάνσεις της κοινωνικής, θρησκευτικής, πολιτικής και πολιτιστικής ζωής των εβραϊκών κοινοτήτων της ύστερης αρχαιότητας, ενώ ιδιαίτερη ενότητα αφορά στην εβραϊκή παρουσία στο Μυστρά. Η πρωτότυπη αυτή «ανάγνωση» που προτείνει η διπλή έκθεση στον επισκέπτη, έγκειται στην εξερεύνηση της πρώιμης εγκατάστασης των Εβραίων στην Ελλάδα, όχι ως ένα μεμονωμένο ιστορικό γεγονός, αλλά ως αναπόσπαστο μέρος ενός ευρύτερου ιστορικού, γεωγραφικού και χρονολογικού πλαισίου, τονίζοντας και αναδεικνύοντας, με αυτό τον τρόπο, την πολυπολιτισμικότητα της Ελλάδας.

The temporary exhibition, Stone Paths – Stories Set in Stone: Jewish Inscriptions in Greece, aims to showcase and highlight the available historic and archaeological evidence of the Greek Jews (from the end of the 4th century BCE until the 15th century CE, including some items dated later) which show, in the most direct and vivid manner, the multicultural past of Greece, while, simultaneously, piecing together the portrait of one of the most ancient religious and cultural communities of Europe. The exhibition items cover almost every social, religious, civic and cultural aspect of Jewish life in late antiquity; as they constitute a rather diverse collection, they are being presented in thematic units. The core of the exhibition will be presented in the Epigraphic Museum, which boasts a unique collection of Jewish inscriptional evidence from Athens, as well as another, from Mystras, dating from the 16th–17th century CE; all these items are presented to the public for the first time. The Mystras inscriptions are irrefutable evidence of the historic presence of Jews in the Peloponnese before the 19th century, when most of the Jewish communities there ceased to exist.

The recommended route for visitors seeks to lead them to an exploration of the early settlement of Jews in Greece, not as an isolated historic incident, but as an integral part of a wider historic, geographical and chronological framework. Using the inscriptional evidence as springboard, the exhibition aims for a composite presentation, which will facilitate interpretation by placing the exhibits in their historic and geographical context and highlighting the cultural interactions among the different ethnic groups of late antiquity. By examining the wider local settlement patterns, the exhibition identifies housing, habitation and religious elements; it reveals correlations, interactions, choices, constructions and usages of space; it brings to light new evidence on the nomenclature, occupations, religious beliefs and practices, as well as local peculiarities. At the same time, the local history of the Jewish communities is showcased, as well as the location and importance of cemeteries and other holy places (synagogues, ritual baths) within residential areas.
