Published in 1969 in two superbly illustrated volumes, Τhe Historical Album of the Greek War of Independence 1821 presents the heroic figures and events of the great uprising that gave birth to the modern Greek state, and that lives on in the memory of all Greeks. Every image of the land and sea battles and of the key figures in the struggle for freedom is accompanied by background material, drawing on historical texts, biographies and journals.
Τhe Historical Album of the Greek War of Independence 1821 was awarded the Academy of Athens Prize in 1971. At that time, it was also characterized a unique achievement in publishing since it was the largest (43x23cm) colored book to be published in Greece.
The cover of the first volume features a fine art reproduction of “The Pass at Dervenakia” by Theodoros Vryzakis (1819-1878), while “The Exodus of Ares” by Κonstantinos Volanakis (1837-1907) adorns the second. The two-volume set com-prises of 700 large-format color pages printed on illustration paper, and includes 400 unique paintings, 600 rare engrav-ings, old maps and a timeline of the revolutionary events.
