Description
This edition, published in English only, consists, in the main, of material drawn from the Dictionary of Greek Artists (1997-2000) by Melissa. It presents 188 artists with a fruitful, stable, and recognizable presence on the Greek and the international art scene over the recent decades, aiming to embrace a broader international readership, with new illustrations and a layout that spotlights the image.
The main section of each entry contains a critical analysis of an artist’s work and its placement in its broader historical and artistic context. The biograph-ical data (exhibitions and bibliography) was not only updated, but also adapted to cater for the interests and needs of art historians and art lovers worldwide. In the case of ‘distinguished’ artists, it was most im-portant to include works dating from periods dur-ing which they made their original historic contri-bution to Greek art.
This work required the collective expertise and de-votion of an entire team of art historians, designers, translators, and editors. The end result sets new standards in the practise of Greek publishing.
