Description
The publication is available in 200 signed and numbered copies. It includes the book with a specially crafted cover and a fine art reproduction of an original 1958 photo and a handmade black plexi-glass case.
Through the use of photographs the book narrates a particular historical period, without being simply historiographic. It tries to convey a sense of the times through the visual recording of people, objects and events. The art of photography, from its emergence in Greece in the middle of the 19th century until today, has followed a course marked by historical events, political ideologies, changing cultural values, personal dexterities and aesthetic obsessions. The combination of different photographic genres, from romantic landscapes and early examples of photojournalism, amateur snapshots, everyday images of family life and digitally manipu-lated photos, aims not only at highlighting the con-tinuity throughout the different eras, but also at proving that the interests and artistic preoccupations of contemporary photographers are not so different from those of their predecessors.
